The Maths at Work event is part of a structured Work Related Learning programme running at Grey Coat Hospital and supported by One EBP to help students develop high aspirations and consider a broad range of careers across different sectors and skill bases.
By working with business volunteers who use maths in their job, the interactive morning increased Year 7 girls’ interest and understanding of the importance of maths in the workplace. Supported by volunteers from Capgemini, Lloyds Bank, Marylebone Cricket Club, HMRC and Bouygues, students calculated salary incomes, planned and budgeted a corporate event, calculated profit and loss, costed venue hire for potential clients, analysed account holder data, and calculated construction dimensions.
These real-life work challenges gave 98% of students a better understanding of different careers and jobs using maths.
I really enjoyed the day! It has helped me to improve my public speaking and presentation skills.

I have learnt more about maths and jobs in the world which include maths and I have learnt why it is important.
